Each person in the labour force, when considered as a family member, is a vital strand in the web of relationships that sustain not just the economy but also our families, our communities and our nation. -Vanier Institute of the Family

In today’s workplace, workers are being asked to work longer hours and to work faster. These changes have led to increased levels of work-related stress and the health problems that accompany chronic stress.

Governments have a key leadership role to play by encouraging and enforcing basic standards that prevent and address health hazards in today’s workplace. Legislation is an important tool governments use to establish a basic standard for the quality of jobs in our province.

The Workplace Stress Initiative has submitted or contributed to the following submissions on legislation that affects the well-being of working Manitobans:

  • Workplace Stress, Mental Illness and Manitoba’s Workers Compensation System, 2004
  • Brief to the Employment Standards Code Review Commission, 2005
  • Bullying at Work: Causes and Solutions, 2007
